Today I enjoyed a few hours at the Spa Botanica located in the Renaissance Hotel on the west side of Phoenix. I made my appointment this morning at 8AM and was easily able to get a 2PM appointment for a massage and facial. When I arrived at the spa at 12:45 I was given a tour and found myself the only person there! That seemed odd. I spent some time in the outdoor private pool area and relaxed in the whirlpool. Again, I was the only person there. At 2PM they found me at the pool and took my downstairs to enjoy my Swedish Massage. The massage therapist was very quick and thorough, but not too communicative. I don't like talking much during my massage so this was okay by me. Good pressure and lots of oil, so not only did I feel destressed, but also well moisturized too! Then came my Purifying Facial. This was a lovely facial but again no surprises or anything that was special. Not that I am complaining, it was a quality service and my esthetician seemed very nice. I guess I've had enough spa days to know a great and fabulous one from a good one. This was a good one.
After touring so many innovative and beautifully designed spas, it is a tiny let down when you arrive at a spa that looks like it was an afterthought. Although this spa was beautiful and had a nice flow, it didn't wow me.
